I’m so excited to announce that something I’ve been working on for quite some time is finally available! Romance Novel Planner, a digital workbook for romance authors, is for sale at romancenovelplanner.com.
As the owner of Lyss Em Editing, I’ve edited hundreds of romance novels (including some best-sellers!), and I’ve written a few myself.
I created Romance Novel Planner because it’s what I wish I had back in 2016 when I was flat broke, moved back into my mom’s house after draining my cashed-out 401(k), and desperate to make writing my career. That didn’t happen, because I gave up too soon and went back to school to be an editor.
But now I know exactly how a romance novel works. I’ve helped my clients create books their readers love, and I’ve watched many of them flourish in full-time careers. A few have even gotten major publishing deals (one got seven figures).
I want that for you too. And Romance Novel Planner can help you get there.
You don’t even need a story idea to get started. Romance Novel Planner will take you from nothing to a finished outline. (Of course, if you already have a story idea, you can use Romance Novel Planner to build on it.)
5 Steps to a Finished Outline
Romance Novel Planner has five sections:
- Inspiration—Brainstorm a compelling story idea from scratch—one you and your readers will find irresistible.
- Characters—Create your main and secondary characters. Go beyond the standard character work sheet and delve into arcs, goals, motivations, and conflicts.
- Settings—Plan out your settings on the macro and micro levels. Craft your story’s mood by choosing imagery and creating a mood board.
- Plotlines—Define your book’s obligatory plot points, connecting plot points, and subplots so you’ll have all the story events you need to ensure a satisfying experience for your reader.
- Scenes—Turn your major plot points into individual scenes, and end up with a completed outline to guide you through drafting your novel. Never be left wondering what you’re supposed to do next. Just write.
140+ Pages of Explanations, Instructions, and Work Sheets
Romance Novel Planner has everything you need to outline your novel—and nothing you don’t. It comes with fillable PDFs of all the work sheets, or you can print them out and fill them in by hand.

Your Time is Precious. Stop Wasting It.
There’s so much bad writing advice out there. And it seems like every day, a new company crops up that is trying to get the money of indie authors without providing them anything of value. (Worse, many of the programs out there harm more than help.)
Don’t get stalled by uncertainty. Don’t spend months or years working on a book you aren’t even sure anyone will want to read. Don’t put your heart and soul into a story just to get crickets when it comes to book sales and reviews.
I’ve put everything I know about writing a good romance story that will sell into Romance Novel Planner so you can forget all the noise and get focused.
