Making It Easy for Readers to Love Your Book

Fiction editing for romance and erotica authors

You Deserve to Feel Confident in Every Release

Readers have many choices when it comes to their next read, and a lack of editing can turn a potential fan into a disappointed customer.

Don’t let your hard work get lost inside plot holes, typos, and grammatical errors.

“Too many typos!”

“I loved the story, but then the ending ruined it.”

As an author myself, I’ve experienced the frustration of trying to find a good, affordable editor.

I care about your story, and I want to help you make it the best it can be.

Hire an Editor with the Right Credentials

Formal Training

I've completed all the editing coursework for my second bachelor's degree in English.

I've also successfully completed two Gale Education courses—The Keys to Effective Editing and Romance Writing—as well as Shani Raja's Punctuation Mastery course.

Knowledge of Story

I know what makes a good story because I've put years of self-study into learning story structure and specifically, romance story structure.

I've studied the romance market and consumed hundreds of romance novels and erotica stories.

Love of Language

I've always loved the English language and have a natural talent for structuring sentences and paragraphs. As a kid, I used to read the dictionary.

I've refined my natural talents with years of writing and learning.

Testimonials

I hired Lyss for a copyedit of my MM romance and I’m so glad I did. She caught all my little (and sometimes big) mistakes and set them right. Not only that, but she made suggestions to improve the readability of my manuscript without changing the tone of the story or my voice.

Lyss is a life saver. I was in a tough spot and on a short deadline before I hired her. Because of her quick turnaround and fantastic work not only did I meet my deadline, I felt like my story was stronger because of her thorough edit and feedback.

In the scramble for a new editor for my series, Lyss.Press came through. They were quick and thorough, catching all of my mistakes without tampering with my voice. They were exactly what I needed and I plan to continue working with them. 100% recommend!

I hired Lyss to do a full edit of a MPreg book, and I was impressed with her from start to finish. Her structural edits transformed my story, and her grammar and copy edits were of a quality that I would expect from an editor with a much higher price tag.

My favorite thing about working with Lyss is that she embraces kink. I never felt like my work was too weird or sexual for her. I've already discussed hiring her for my next project. I've worked with other editors on smaller pieces I've had published, and Lyss was the easiest to work with. She's fast, she respected my voice, and she knows what she's doing. You won't regret hiring her.

Choose the Level(s) of Editing to Suit Your Needs

Developmental Editing

Is your story working?

I will focus on your story’s overall structure—plot, character, setting, etc.—as well as on clarity and story logic. I will provide comments throughout the manuscript and, if needed, at the end of the document offering suggestions for improvement.

Copyediting

Will your grammar, punctuation, or sentence structure pull readers out of your story?

I will edit for grammar, style, and word usage using The Chicago Manual of Style, Merriam-Webster's dictionary, and my own expertise.

Proofreading

Did you miss any typos or grammar issues?

I will edit for surface-level mechanics which may have been missed or introduced in copyediting.

All Three Levels

Developmental Editing + Copyediting + Proofreading = A High-Quality, Market-Ready Book

How It Works

1. Sample Edit

I provide a free sample edit of up to 2,000 words so you can get a feel for my editing style, and I can get a feel for your story.

2. Plan

I take a look at your full manuscript, and you and I decide which level(s) of editing your story needs.

3. Full Edit

I edit your story based on our plan and deliver the edited manuscript.

4. Ready-to-Publish Manuscript

You incorporate the edits, which leaves you with a polished, market-ready book.
